Marshmallow Tower

The marshmallow tower was a little difficult but are team pulled through with our structure. Are leader was deferentially and the rest of us just help him construct what he sketch up on his note pad. we made a square bottom with x beams holding up the second level of the structure to a cone a the top to hold the marshmallow. The tower was a total of 17 inches. Some would say towering over the competition with the closest tower to ours in height was 12.5 inches. We all do our part to put the tower together. And was crown the new champions of the IT Citrine Trophy.

Segway Centaur Project Site

For me this was my third time doing this site project. The first being the dragon site, then the second one of my own content, and for the third one I did the other provided content about the Segway Centaur. This time I tried focusing more on my viewer experience because of my lack in styling and decorating my site up. I made adjustments suggested by the peer that viewed my rough draft of the site. She stated that it was stiff and too block orientated. She suggested to have borders cut up the content so it just not a content flow of text and content . Then by rounding the corners of the content boxes made the site flow better and made it less blockey.

#1 My partner was and she did her site on Space X Dragon

#2 It help with putting down what need to be changed about the site but the different boxes help with keep it organised

#3 I felt the most comfortable in the elevator position

#4 To make the site flow more smoothly not to have it all blockey and just text

#5 Pointing out if the code was messed up or the right calls

#6 To help with the flow of their site more and structure

Progressive Enhancement

The progressive enhancement is as they say in the article that the coding involve in Web building is like the peanut M&M is built of the peanut center (html) the chocolate coating (CSS) and the candy outer shell (Javascript). The only part that is effected by the progressive enhancement is the CSS and Javascript. The progress of building websites slowly and carefully by piece by peice putting it together starting with html core site. After getting all the html to work properly you can start the beautification of the site with CSS. After applying the fine coat of paint on the site now is time for the moving pieces of the site that makes people go “wow”.

Flex-box Froggy

This site (http://flexboxfroggy.com/) is perfect for learning how to use Flex-box in the CSS portion of site’s coding. This site teaches you how to use the basics and understand how it effects the site design. The site takes you 24 different scenarios where you need to use the code you learn from the previous level or it teaching you new parts of the Flex-box.

Google Power Searching

Google is a very powerful device even without power searching, but the power searching that is integrated in google improves how you can limit or/and define you searches to be more precise.

The first tip that was the “site” modifier, which allows you to limit the sites you want to see. For example if you are looking for resources for a research paper and need sources that are good and not someone’s blog or rant about your subject applying the site modifier like so “Christopher Columbus site:.edu” to the end of your search. The google search result now will only give you site that have the ending of “.edu” and only those.

The next tip is the “-” minus operator, this will help with terms or words that have the same spelling like “Salsa”. Using this modifier will take out the parts of the word you don’t want. So for example “Salsa” if you use the modifier like so “-food,-dance,or/and -recipes” it will take out the search terms that are related to the modifier.

The third tip is for need finding the source of a quote or who said the quote. This is simply by applying the “” around the line you are trying to find. This quote modifier will be useful for people finding the source of the quote for papers or if you heard the quote and wanted to check what it’s from to either read it yourself or watch it if it’s a movie.

The fourth tip helps with people need number converted into an other measurement. This is useful for people in biology, math, and for any day needs of dealing with measurement that need to be converted because of situations leaving you having to have change the unit. An example for this is if you measured a fence in meters but the group you hired needs those measurement in feet. You can put into the google search bar “40 meters into feet”, google will pull up it calculator and show you the 40 meters is equal to 131.234 Feet.

The fifth and final tip for my Google Power Search experience that i will leave you with is the image filter tools. The tools implanted into google’s image search help with all sorts of situations. One being if you are looking for photos for a site and need them to follow a certain color scheme you can choose from it’s filter tools the color you want of those photos you are googling for. You can also apply a filter that only shows photos that are not licences affiliated, so that your site or your employers site isn’t hit with charges for the use of that photo. Then if you fine a photo you like but it’s quality could be a little better you can use the similar button on the photo to find the same photo but have the chance to see if there is a better quality one in google.
